La Textilerie d'Ikea @ Gare Saint Lazare

Monday, February 18, 2013

Almost three years after Ikea took over the Paris Métro, those crafty Sweedes and their French counterparts have taken things above ground with La Textilerie, an interactive atelier dedicated to all things one can sew, design and make using Ikea's latest fabric line.

Located in a 150m2 transparent tent on the forecourt of the Saint Lazare métro station, La Textilerie is offering twice-daily DIY workshops alternating between lampshades, table-runners, garlands and storage boxes; eight seamstresses to create bespoke, handmade soft-furnishings that you can order in the morning and pick up the same evening and two interior design consultants to help you decide what best goes where.

Registration for the workshops can only be made at the venue and, from the buzz there this morning, places are filling very quickly. The only thing to decide now is do I need a new lampshade or yet another garland? Of course I do.
