Postcards from the Sud-Ouest

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Sunday evening Mr M, Daisy and I returned from the most glorious trip. Seven days of exploring, discovering, bike riding, picture taking. Eating like kings and earning some new freckles. Introducing the pup to sand and having it fill our pockets and the hems of our turned-up pants. Being taught how to eat oysters and match a full-bodied Bordeaux with a full plate of local fare.

It was a wonderful holiday and intermittently over the last two days since returning my mind can't help travelling back to our time in the Sud-Ouest, especially with the horrible weather that has met us back in the city.

Over the next couple of weeks I hope to share all the things discovered in the gorgeous Gironde.
The little, cobble-stone street that boasts five amazing restaurants. The bio cafe that sits proudly amongst the alimentation and heaving fabric stores of Bordeaux's Arab district. The wonderful group of makers and creators that run a co-working atelier. The painstakingly-hip but hidden road and the most divine cheese shop that sits smack-bang in the middle.

The oyster farmers that sell you their harvest straight from the water on the back-porch of their little huts and the communal villages in which they live. The mountain of sand that is the Dune du Pilat, the largest sand dune in all of Europe.

I can't wait to share the treasures discovered here.

    1. It really is. Although not a lot was open/ going on being March, sometimes it felt like we were the only ones there. I definitely recommend going either side of the peak summer season. And so easy to get to, too! xx
